Yoshihiro Nakamura will direct the Mieruko-chan live-action movie, which was announced last October with a poster, main staff and cast. He will also write the script with assistance from Izumi Tomoki. In a previous interview, Nakamura-san mentioned that his interest in a Mieruko-chan live-action movie started when he received the manga during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was instantly drawn to the work due to its unique way of blending horror and comedy, an aspect that will be hard to recreate in live action. Yet he promises a film “unlike anything anyone’s seen before.”

Written and illustrated by Tomoki Izumi, Mieruko-chan has been serialized online via Kadokawa’s ComicWalker since November 2018. Yen Press releases the English version of the manga in North America. Studio Passione animated its twelve-episode TV anime adaptation.

The anime’s main vocal cast includes:

  • Sora Amamiya as Miko Yotsuba
  • Kaede Hondo as Hana Yurikawa
  • Ayane Sakura as Yuria Niguredō

Mieruko-chan follows Miko Yotsuya, an average high school girl who one day gains the ability to see the supernatural. Realizing that acknowledging the macabre spirits that now surround her would work to her detriment, she employs the age-old tradition of ignoring one’s problems. But ignoring one’s problem does little when something is actively trying to send you the way of the dodo. Will Miko’s strength be enough to keep her alive? Check out Mieruko-chan on Crunchyroll to find out.
