Season 4 of The Rising of the Shield Hero has been officially announced with a teaser visual. No other details about the new announcement have been mentioned as of this writing.
The first season of the Shield Hero anime aired from January to June 2019 for 25 episodes. Studio Kinema citrus animated it under the direction of Takao Abo and series composition by Keigo Koyanagi. The second season, which was supposed to air in October 2021, aired from April to June 2022 for 13 episodes. Korean DR Movie worked on the animation, alongside Kinema Citrus. It was directed by Masato Jinbo with Keigo Koyanagi on the series composition. The third season aired from October to December 2023, with Hitoshi Saga directing it while Keigo Koyanagi is doing both the scriptwriting and series composition.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime (in both sub and dub versions) and describes the plot as:
Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
The Rising of The Shield Hero anime is based Japanese light novel series by Aneko Yusagi, with Seira Minami’s illustrations. Media Factory has been publishing it since 2013, as well as the manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu since 2014.
