The upcoming Season 4 of The Rising of the Shield Hero revealed a teaser visual the the “Return of the exiled” tagline. The highly-anticipated sequel, which was announced in January of this year, still doesn’t have a release date.
Details on the staff weren’t revealed. Kinema Citrus worked on the previous seasons (was joined by DR Movie on the second). In addition to the visual, the anime got a short teaser video to promote it:
The anime is based on a light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Minami Seira. The light novel has been serialized under Media Factory’s MF Book imprint since 2012. It was originally published as a web novel. A manga adaptation by Kyu Aiya is currently ongoing in the Comic Flapper magazine.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime (in both sub and dub versions) and describes the plot as:
Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
