Tower of God webtoon will be going on another hiatus due to author SIU’s health. The information was announced a the end of the 133rd episode of the third part of the series (550th episode overall), which is currently only available to FastPass users of the Naver website. Unlike traditional comics, webtoon use episodes instead of chapters.
SIU states that something personal has been happening in the past few months and that he tried dedicating more time to his work, but that he was already at his limit. Initially, the break was supposed to be only one week long. He goes on to say that he wanted to have content that his readers were satisfied with but that it did not work out the way he wanted it to. Instead of continuing to deliver work that his readers aren’t happy with, SIU wants to rest and get better and promises to return once he regains a bit of composure. He finishes off by saying that fans love Tower of God and so does he.
In a post made on his official blog, SIU states that he struggled with the decision and the feelings of letting fans down. He apologized to the readers for letting his “personal reasons” get in the way of serialization, while also stating that he cannot let go of his love for his work.
Tower of God webtoon returned from hiatus last May, after starting a break in June 2020, also due to the author’s health issues. The webtoon returned both in Korean and English and even had a special trailer featuring the characters from the story.
Tower of God is a Korean manhwa that was first published in 2010 and has since been serialized on Naver’s Webtoon platform. It received an official English translation in July 2014. The webtoon also got an anime adaptation by Telecom Animation Film, which aired in Spring 2020. Author’s name stands for “Slave in Utero” but is rarely used in full.
Korean fans can read the latest episodes on Naver’s website. Webtoon is publishing the English version and describes the plot as:
What do you desire? Money and wealth? Honor and pride? Authority and power? Revenge? Or something that transcends them all? Whatever you desire—it’s here.
