15 Sci-Fi Anime That Every Anime Fan Must Watch

1. Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song (2021)

Studio: Wit
MyAnimeList Score: 8.5 / 10
Seasons: 1

The number one sci-fi series I believe every anime fan should watch is Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song.

Voted Best New Anime of Spring 2021 at Anime Corner, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song is going to be one of those series we look back on 20 years from now and realize what a wonderful masterpiece it was.

From the creator of Re: Zero, Nagatsuki Tappei, along with Umehara Eiji and the studio that brought us iconic series such as Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Great Pretender, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song is the poster series for modern sci-fi anime. We follow Vivy and Matsumoto as they do all they can to re-write events that once caused AI to wage a bloody war against humans.

I’m sure we’ve all seen series or movies that have a “go back in time to save the future” premise. Unfortunately, a lot of those kinds of series fall flat and end up becoming a gimmick. Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, on the other hand, delivers this premise perfectly as none have done before.

Vivy

One of the best parts of Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song is that every episode also becomes its own arc. Unlike other original series, each episode, and each character that is introduced in Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, all tie into the main story leading up to a downright perfect ending.

When discussing what makes a series great there’s one consistent that needs to be addressed — leave no stone unturned. And that’s just what Vivy accomplishes. There are no holes in the plot and the staff at Wit Studio made sure of that.

Not only such, but they made an extremely admirable effort to make every single fight scene as beautiful as possible. In fact, this fight scene below actually trended on Twitter after the episode aired. If you want to see the fight in its finished product, go watch episode 9.

It’ll leave you speechless of how fluid and gorgeous the animations are. The storyboarding and choreography are both outstanding.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song Could Be A Trendsetter

Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song reminds us all that not only can we help others, but we can do so while obtaining our own goals as well. The series paints a new picture that gives light to a very dim genre in the anime community. While most of the anime today is either shonen, romance, or isekai, Vivy: Fluorite’s Song brings sci-fi anime to the forefront.

After hardly being known to becoming one of the top-100 ranked anime of all time, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song is a must-watch sci-fi epic that could possibly light a fuse under more studios to create something similar. After the series’ recent success, both a light novel and manga are now being published.

Hopefully, it will inspire other mangaka out there to push the limits of sci-fi.

You can watch the masterpiece known as Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song on Funimation.
