Shonen Jump’s official Twitter confirmed today that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga will go on hiatus due to Gege Akutami’s health issues. The hiatus will start from Shonen Jump’s 29th issue on June 21, 2021.
Along with the update, Shonen Jump shared a handwritten note from Gege Akutami himself. In the note, Akutami explains that his condition is not too serious and that he’s well mentally. A new chapter of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga will still appear on June 14. Shonen Jump will announce the manga’s return date once Akutami has recovered enough to resume work.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. The manga’s 16th compiled volume was published on June 4. Furthermore, the manga-inspired 24-episode anime adaptation, released in October last year. The anime was highly successful and even went on to win Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll 2021 awards.
A film titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is also in the works, and will premiere in Winter 2021, but has no exact release date yet. The film will adapt the prequel manga of the same name. Here’s the teaser trailer:
