The Play It Cool, Guys is getting a live-action adaptation. Members from the Japanese boy band JO1 and Korean boy group NCT 127 are joining the cast, which includes:
- Maito Fujioka as Shun Futami
- Yuta Nakamoto (from NCT 127) as Hayate Ichikura
- Dori Sakurada as Takayuki Mima
- Takumi Kawanishi (from JO1) as Soma Shiki
Hiroaki Yuasa, Yuka Eda, and Akina Yanagi are directing the Play It Cool Guys live-action series. Hiroyuki Komine is writing the screenplay. The series will premiere on TV Tokyo on April 14.
The Play It Cool, Guys live-action adaptation is based on the web manga series written and illustrated by Kokone Nata. It started off as a series of illustrations by the author before being serialized on Pixiv in February 2019 as a web manga. It was then picked up by Square Enix and serialized in Gangan Comics Pixiv. It received an anime adaptation from Studio Pierrot, with direction from Chiaki Kon. The anime started airing in October 2022 and is currently airing. It is slated for 24 episodes, each one will have a running time of 15 minutes. The anime’s main cast includes:
- Koki Uchiyama as Shun Futami
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Hayate Ichikura
- Shoya Chiba as Soma Shiki
- Yuichiro Umehara as Takayuki Mima
Yen Press has licensed the manga in English, describing the plot as:
Enter: a group of cool guys who seem like they’ve got that unapproachable swag. But look closer and you’ll find a bunch of dorks who’ve gotten the act down pat. So sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy watching these clumsy dudes try to look cool all day, every day.
