On July 27, 2021, NewType Comics has released the very first chapter for Nogi Yasuhito’s new manga. “A Certain Scientific Mental Out,” tells the story of one of the main heroines of the Toaru franchise, Misaki Shokuhou. Furthermore, you can read the first chapter right now on the NewType Comics’ website.
Additionally, this is not Nogi Yasuhito’s first take on Kazuma Kamachi’s Toaru franchise. He also worked on the Railgun spin-off series titled, “A Certain Scientific Railgun: Astral Buddy”. The Astral Buddy series has an overall of 4 volumes and 31 chapters. The story was centered on Hokaze Junko, the second-in-command of Shokuhou Misaki’s faction. In addition, on December 31, 2020, it was announced that A Certain Scientific Mental Out is in the works, and now it’s finally out.
If you don’t know anything about the original light novel of the Toaru franchise, the story goes as follows:
Touma Kamijou’s right hand has the ability to nullify any form of supernatural power, whether it be magical, psychic, or divine; he lives in a city populated by students with these powers. Yet unfortunately for Touma, his arm also seems to nullify good luck. Despite his bad luck, the boy tries to stay out of trouble and just live out his life, trying to be the “good guy” whenever he can; but trouble enters his life one day when he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony. She turns out to be a nun of the Church of England, bearing the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum – a collection of 103,000 forbidden texts, and as a result, has a number of people after her. How far will Touma go to protect his new companion from her pursuers?
The franchise already got multiple spin-offs that tell the story of different characters. “A Certain Scientific Accelerator” focuses on Accelerator, while “A Certain Scientific Railgun” focuses on Mikoto Misaka. Both got manga and anime adaptations as well. Additionally, there is also “A Certain Scientific Dark Matter” series that focuses on Kakine Teitoku.
