Based on Naoki Fujita’s manga, Beat & Motion follows college student Tatsuhiko Hirayama, a former aspiring animator who abandoned his dream after years of ridicule from classmates. After a chance encounter with independent musician Nico Kashiwagi, he finds himself returning to animation and beginning a creative partnership that gradually changes both of their lives.

Originally serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ from February 2023 to January 2025, Beat & Motion concluded with six collected volumes. The manga originated from Shueisha’s Million Tag competition, a reality-style creator development project that paired aspiring manga artists with editors. Fujita’s work ultimately won the grand prize, securing the serialization and an anime adaptation as part of the competition’s rewards.
