Hololive fans turned out in droves online and offline for the Hololive Super Expo 2022 held at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall 1-3 on the weekend of March 19-20. Mascots of Hololive VTubers Sakura Miko, Oozora Subaru, Tokino Sora, Kureiji Ollie and Amelia Watson open the Super Expo alongside Cover Corporation CEO Motoaki “YAGOO” Tanigo.

As thousands filled the physical venue, and the online audience grew larger. Around 58,000 waited for the online stream at the very start, and it reached peak viewership of 83,113.

Numerous types of merchandise were promoted—Weiss Schwarz trading card packs featuring Hololive VTubers, apparel such as hats and sweaters, folders and so on, all of it uniquely made for the event.

Hololive Super Expo 2022 prepared a program for the online audience: Yozora Mel, Roboco-san, Momosuzu Nene, and Shishiro Botan played a game offering humorous commentary on different photos, with Nene coming out victorious. Following that were the lovely ladies of Hololive Myth—Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina’nis, Gawr Gura, Amelia Watson—who played “I Love Myth ~holo QUIZ~,” to determine how well they knew one another. Japanese subtitles were provided in this English stream, which further proved that language is no barrier for Hololive, and VTuber fans in general.

During the quiz, Mori and Gura spoke on the meaning behind the title “Q” for their music video, where Mori explained that a producer suggested the name, that it wasn’t their first choice, and there is no real meaning behind it, but Mori suggested “Queen” as a possible meaning. The two winners of the fun and revealing quiz were Gura and Calli, who tied for first place with 20 points each, proving they know a great deal about their friends and colleagues.

Over at Holostars’ YouTube channel, a dedicated segment for the male group is streamed, featuring an interview with YAGOO. Amane Kanata, Akai Haato, Shiranui Flare, and Kureiji Ollie went next afterwards, starting another challenge game—a series of quizzes with questions ranging from math to VTuber trivia, all to test the VTubers’ intellect. After the quiz concluded, the four VTubers proceeded to explain the card sets avid fans could purchase for their collections.

The next event to greet overjoyed fans saw Shishiro Botan return in her 3D form. Yukihana Lamy joined her to go over some of the physical attractions and merchandise at the expo. A cameraman leads everyone on a tour of the venue, walking through different sets, such as Hololive Error, the Hololive Alternative set featuring Usada Pekora and her large carrots, plus display sets for costumes of all Hololive talents.

Hololive Indonesia featured a hopscotch area and a gallery of their history, while Hololive English has a life-size statue of Gawr Gura as a centerpiece alongside exhibits of all EN members, all interspersed with large crowds of fans holding merchandise to show their love of the VTubers, as they waved to the camera.

After the grand tour, Tsunomaki Watame, Hoshimachi Suisei, Shirakami Fubuki, and A-chan took the stage for another fun sketch where they stand in front of microphones and addressed a press group (while they made the sound effect of cameras snapping pictures). Once the press conference skit segment concluded, Hololive Indonesia’s Generation 2—Pavolia Reine, Anya Melfissa, and the returning Ollie—debate trivial matters.

Once our class session had ended, Noel Shirogane, Natsuiro Matsuri, and Aki Rosenthal took the stage to take part in a memory quiz, featuring onigiri and animal shapes. This is the last part of online programs for the Super Expo before turning over to the Hololive 3rd fes: Link Your Wish concert, in which the first 45 minutes can be viewed by the public.
