Golden Kamuy has announced a spin-off novel, which will also introduce exclusive new anime content bundled in a Blu-ray edition. Titled Golden Kamuy: Tokushiro Tsurumi no Shukugan, the spin-off novel is scheduled to release in Japan on October 17, 2025, with Amon Ibuki as the author. A limited “anime Blu-ray bundled edition” will also be available, featuring new anime adaptations of select manga chapters.
The bundled Blu-ray will feature approximately 30 minutes of original video animation (OVA) content. This will include the adaptations of two chapters from the original manga: The Lightning Thief and Viper Ogin (Chapter 102) and Long-Tailed Tit (Chapter 228). The OVA will have Shizutaka Sugahara as the director, with Brain’s Base, the studio behind Season 4 of the TV anime, handling the animation.
The announcement also coincided with Japan’s “Lovers’ Day” celebrated on June 12, and the official X teased the “most dangerous married couple” from the series.
Golden Kamuy is a manga written and illustrated by Satoru Noda, serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2014 to 2022, and collected in 31 volumes. As of mid-2024, it has over 29 million copies in circulation. The series earned critical acclaim, winning the 2016 Manga Taisho award and the 22nd Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2018.
Set in early 20th-century Hokkaido, the story follows Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto, a Russo-Japanese War veteran searching for hidden Ainu gold. Joined by a young Ainu girl named Asirpa, Sugimoto faces harsh environments, criminals, and rival factions all competing for the treasure.
The manga was adapted into an anime starting in 2018, with Geno Studio handling the first three seasons. Studio Brain’s Base took over for Season 4, which aired from late 2022 into mid-2023. The fifth and final season was announced immediately after Season 4 concluded.
A live-action film premiered in January 2024, followed by a TV drama, Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners Arc, which aired in late 2024. A sequel film was greenlit following the TV series finale.
