Star of Netflix’s One Piece live-action series, Mackenyu, will join the cast of Assassin’s Creed Shadows as the “key character” Gennojo. Gennojo will aid the protagonist in eliminating an important target. Mackenyu will voice the character in both English and Japanese, and his face was used as the model. The character’s official description which can be read below.

Mackenyu’s Gennojo is described: “As part of the Shinobi League, players can recruit him into their ‘brotherhood’ for support. Gennojo is a charming, reckless, and deeply conflicted figure, driven by guilt to dismantle a corrupt system. He’s a flirtatious rogue and a trickster, always walking the line with a mix of wit, deceit, and swagger. Motivated by a deep desire to bring down a corrupt system, Gennojo is willing to risk everything, even his own life, to achieve his goal. Despite his rough exterior, he holds a strong sense of justice, especially when it comes to helping the poor and elderly.“
Mackenyu gave an exclusive interview to Variety, where the One Piece actor shared that Assassin’s Creed was the first game he ever played. He desperately wanted to join the project when he learned it would be set in Japan and hopes to be involved in Netflix’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed TV series. “Please get my name in that,” he said.
Gennojo shares the same face as Mackenyu, which was recorded through a scan. While both the character and Zoro from One Piece are outlaw characters who defy the rich, love saké and share a formative bond with someone of the opposite gender, Gennojo is specifically described as a “thief, a troublemaker who robs the rich and powerful and sleeps with everyone.” The “charming” character projects a confident exterior to hide his broken heart.
Fans can check out Mackenyu as Gennojo when Assassin’s Creed Shadows drops on March 20 and as Zoro in One Piece, which is expected sooner rather than later after production ended on February 4.
