The World's Next Hello Kitty Cafe Opens In Melbourne, Australia

Australia’s first permanent Hello Kitty Cafe will open on May 9, 2025, continuing Sanrio‘s spread of its popular cafe store experiences globally. Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe will open at 11 am local time on Level 1 in Melbourne Central shopping center in Melbourne. Concrete Playground reported that Australian creatives Eddie Zammit (art director) and Sofles (artwork) led the cafe concept, having previously worked on the massive 9-metre Hello Kitty pop-up installed for Chadstone Shopping Center back in December. You can check out that installation and the Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe menu below.

Melbourne Central teased the cafe:
Get ready, Melbourne — on Friday 9 May 2025 at 11am, the cutest crew in the world is moving in. This May, the highly anticipated Hello Kitty and Friends Café will open on Level 1 of Melbourne Central, delivering a first-of-its-kind immersive dining experience that brings the whimsical world of Sanrio to life.

Inspired by the global phenomenon of Hello Kitty and her iconic friends – including Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, and My Melody – the café is set to be a destination for fans of food, fun, and all things adorable. Across four creatively designed spaces, guests will step into a kawaii dreamworld that blends Japanese pop culture, art, and culinary delights in a way that’s uniquely Melbourne.

This follows Canada’s first Hello Kitty Cafe launch last May, followed by Universal Studios Citywalk’s Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe and Sanrio Smile Shop openings in September. Dubai and multiple locations in the U.K. have also hosted pop-up cafes.
