A costumed version of Monkey D. Luffy from ONE PIECE will throw the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park on Saturday, May 3, ahead of the Boston Red Sox vs Minnesota Twins game. The event is part of a sold-out theme day celebrating the legendary Japanese anime and manga series.
The collaboration between the Red Sox and Toei Animation marks the second event at Fenway in collaboration with Toei Animation, and reflects a growing appetite for crossover events with the ONE PIECE franchise. Some other recent sports collaborations included a Game Night with the Los Angeles Lakers, one with soccer club Borussia Dortmund, as well as one with the MLB team Seattle Mariners.
Saturday’s theme day will feature character mascots, fan photo ops, a card game demo, and giveaways for the 6,300 attendees who purchased special event tickets.

Gates open early for fans to take part in pregame activities beginning at 1:40 p.m. on the Big Concourse and Sam Adams Deck. Activities include a Fan Meet-Up at the Sam Adams Deck, a Photo-Op with Monkey D. Luffy and Chopper character mascots at the Big Concourse, and a ONE PIECE Card Game demo also at the Big Concourse, all starting at 1:40 p.m.
The first pitch (by the Luffy mascot) will take place just before the scheduled 4:10 p.m. start of the Red Sox–Twins game.
All attendees will receive a co-branded Red Sox x ONE PIECE baseball jersey, while VIP ticketholders will also get a themed cap. The promotional merchandise and in-park events aim to bring together fans of the anime, baseball regulars, and curious newcomers.
Only credentialed media will be allowed access inside Fenway during the event.
The sports collaborations follow numerous other recent ONE PIECE brand partnerships, including the LEGO x ONE PIECE collection, POP MART’s The Monsters x ONE PIECE collection, as well as the Baskin Robbins x ONE PIECE ice cream collaboration.
The ONE PIECE anime resumed with Egghead Island Part 2 on April 6, 2025 following a production break.
