miHoYo Expands to Montréal, Hints New Game in Development

miHoYo has hinted to the public that it will be working on an action-adventure game featuring shooting-based gameplay. What’s more, the company is opening a new office in Montréal, Canada.

According to their LinkedIn post, this marks their first market entry into North America. They will also be welcoming a team of 100 employees over the next two years. When checking their official job openings on their careers page, the jobs that are available for their Canada office include positions for a gameplay network programmer, senior audio programmer, and build tool programmers. All job openings are marked as full-time.

Economic development agency Montréal International and holding company Investissement Québec supported miHoYo’s expansion to Canada. It should be noted that miHoYo is an active participant in the Montréal International’s Journées Québec Gaming & VFX event.

In a press release by Montréal International, Forrest Liu, co-founder of miHoYo said that Montréal is home to a thriving game development community and is well-known for its world-class universities, adding that they at miHoYo deeply value the ‘expertise and creativity that the local ecosystem provides and believe it will empower miHoYo to create games with their imagination’.

“This year marks miHoYo’s tenth anniversary. Since our inception, guided by the mission of Tech Otakus Save the World, we have invested continuously in animation rendering, artificial intelligence, and cross-platform development technology to bolster our research and development capabilities. We are committed to publishing our games globally across console, PC and mobile platforms, owing to our thriving in-house distribution capabilities. We have gained a plethora of game development and operations experience as a result of Genshin Impact’s recent global release, which we can harness to create even higher-quality games to our players.”

Meanwhile, Stéphane Paquet, President and CEO at Montréal International, commented:

By choosing our city for its first development office/studio in North America, miHoYo is confirming the city’s position as a world hub not only for investors, but also for talent seeking to advance their career.”

Recently, miHoYo announced that will participate in the annual Anime NYC convention held at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The game developer is known for their games such as Honkai Impact and more recently, Genshin Impact.
