The Apothecary Diaries manga adaptation by Minoji Kurata, titled Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Kokyu Nazotoki Techo (The Apothecary Diaries: The Palace Cloister Mystery-Solving Notebook of Maomao), will be going on hiatus due to the illustrator taking time off during maternity leave. Kurata gave birth in January 2024 and assured readers that she would return to work in the summer.
The announcement was revealed in the author’s note of the manga’s bonus chapter on the Sunday Webry website:
This is Kurata. I gave birth in January and am currently on maternity leave. I am slowly preparing for my return in the summer, so please wait a while as I read and reread the original work.
Minoji Kurata’s The Apothecary Diaries manga is published in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X for monthly print release and on the Sunday Webry website digitally. The manga has over 70 chapters and 18 volumes. This is an alternate manga adaptation of Natsu Hyuga‘s light novel series. It is separate from the adaptation by Nekokurage on Square Enix, which also began in the summer of 2017.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Kokyu Nazotoki Techo (The Apothecary Diaries: The Palace Cloister Mystery-Solving Notebook of Maomao) previously announced its plan to enter hiatus in March 2024 following the release of Volume 18 of the manga series.
Kurata wrote on her blog that she had prepared in advance so there would be no problems with her maternity leave and the serialization while the anime was airing. Her last published chapter was on April 1st with the series nearing the climax of the Shi Clan Arc of the light novel’s fifth volume. She adds that it is an odd place to stop the story, but encourages fans to look forward to the anticipated conclusion of the story arc.
