Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime announced a movie project for 2025. The Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved was announced during a special program hosted by Daisuke Ono, who voices Fafnir in the anime. The announcement was teased earlier this month. Tatsuya Ishihara is returning for the movie after working on the second season.
The promotional video is narrated by Kanna, who is voiced by Maria Naganawa.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is based on a manga written and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya. The manga has been ongoing since 2013. It was serialized in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine until 2024, but after the magazine ceased publication it was moved to Manga Action. Four spin-off titles, Kanna’s Daily Life, Elma’s Office Lady Diary, Lucoa is my xx, and Fafnir the Recluse, were also serialized in Monthly Action and later moved to Web Action.
Kyoto Animation animated the first season of the anime adaptation in 2017 with Yasuhiro Takemoto as the director. Takemoto, who died in the 2019 arson attack on the studio, was co-credited as the director of the second season with Tatsuya Ishihara. The second season, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, aired in 2021 for 12 episodes.
The main cast for the anime, Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi). Yuki Kuwahara (Tohru), Maria Naganawa (Kanna) recorded a message to celebrate Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid move announcement:
