My Hero Academia Episode 100: Bakugo and Todoroki Shine

My Hero Academia Episode 100 was an incredible way to celebrate the 100-episode milestone. With a lot of moving parts in this episode, it was almost overwhelming at times. Nonetheless, this was still a fantastic episode that capped off the Joint Training Arc.

What We Learned

All Might and Bakugo are trying to help Deku figure out his newly inherited quick ‘Blackwhip’. They try sparring to see if fighting will unleash it again. But Deku lets them know that the presence he felt during the tournament isn’t there anymore. All Might tells Deku that he doesn’t know of a “bald-headed” inheritor of One For All. The only inheritors he knows of, besides himself and Deku, are his master, Shimura, and her master.

Bakugo wonders, since Deku is inheriting quirks, that his One For All is just like All For One’s quirk.

While they’re figuring Deku’s quirk out, Aizawa wanted to have Monoma try and use his quirk on Eri. During the tournament, we saw Monoma steal Deku’s One For All quirk, but he called it a “dud”. In episode 100, we learn that Monoma can’t replicate “stockpile quirks” like Deku and Eri have.

He explains that their quirks require an accumulation of energy, which he can’t replicate. Aizawa explains the reason he wanted to try this was to see if Monoma could copy Eri’s quirk and teach her how to use it directly.

Stay positive, Eri!

One last thing we learned is that Shinso has, indeed, been selected to the hero course after his efforts in the tournament. Deku even praised Shinso saying, “If we’re talking about using strength for someone else’s sake, then I was the one who wasn’t any good.”

Whether he will be going to Class A or Class B is still up in the air.

Touching Moment

As soon as Deku returned to the dorm after sparring with Bakugo, Todoroki approached him. He asks Deku about how it felt to use two different quirks and rightfully so. “That must’ve been hard,” said Todoroki.

It quickly establishes a stronger friendship between the two because Todoroki is the only one who knows what it’s like to have two quirks.

The scene even cuts to Endeavor man-handling a villain while looking at his phone. He reads a text from Todoroki asking him how to use ‘Flashfire’, the name of the move we got a glimpse of in episode 96.

“I can’t believe it… I didn’t think you’d be the one approaching me about it,” says Endeavor with a smile on his face.

Highlight of the Episode

Bakugo and Todoroki were the only two left in Class-A that still hadn’t received their provisional hero license. Well, spoiler alert, they both ended up getting their licenses. Not only that, but they started off their work as heroes in the most Bakugo-Todoroki fashion ever – being bad-ass heroes.

A group of villains started flooding downtown with water while snatching civilians’ purses and wallets. The two get out of a cab they were in with All Might and get right to work. While All Might makes sure to keep civilians at a distance, Todoroki gets to work on freezing the water. At one point, Bakugo even saves All Might and a civilian from a fall street lamp.

Todoroki manages to trap all of the villains in ice while Bakugo made sure everyone’s belongings were safe. We’re introduced to the hero Slidin’ Go, who’s there to clean up the rest. He gives both Bakugo and Todoroki praise, along with All Might saying, “You’re future top heroes!”

Is this a sign of things to come down the line?

This scene was much more epic than words could describe so definitely give episode 100 a watch to get that full experience.

One Question Remains

At one point in the episode, Present Mic and Aizawa were walking down a hallway at UA. Present Mic begins to give Aizawa praise for how Shinso performed. He asks Aizawa if he decided to teach Shinso because he sees himself in him or if it’s about “Shirakumo”, to which Aizawa quickly cut him off.

Who is Shirakumo? Hmm.. (no spoilers, manga readers!)
