Retailer Oozlaya has announced the release date for the fifth and sixth original video anime (OVA) of Hori-san to Miyamura-kun. They release on May 25, 2021, and are already available for pre-order on the Oozlaya website.
The OVAs are not linked to the 2021 TV anime adaptation of Horimiya. Instead, they will adapt HERO’s original manga and continue on from the four previous OVAs, released from 2012 onwards. So far, we know that the titles of the episodes are Manatsu-bi (Midsummer Day) and Yasashii Hito (A Kind Person) and will be 22-26 minutes in length.
Studio Gonzo, which also produced the fourth OVA, is in charge of production. Additionally, director Kazuya Aiura and character designer Fumi Katou will return from previous installments. The voice cast members will also return to their roles.
In 2007, Hiroki Adachi published Hori-san to Miyamura-kun on her website, Dokkai Ahen, under the penname HERO. The romantic comedy manga was originally a 4-koma series – a comic strip, consisting of four panels. Square Enix acquired the manga the following year and began releasing it officially.
In 2011, Daisuke Hagiwara adapted the series into a new manga titled Horimiya, which retold the original series in a typical manga format. With this adaptation came a new art style. While the “Hori-san to Miyamura-kun OVA” reflects the simplistic style of HERO’s original comic, the art style in the 2021 TV anime adaptation is more similar to Daisuke Hagiwara’s manga.
The 2021 anime adaptation was hugely successful and secured Horimiya’s place as a favorite among fans of the rom-com genre. The show is available to watch on Funimation.
