Souma experienced his first distress as a king in episode 8 of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. Following the events in the previous episode, Souma continues to create new roads and a port. However, while focusing on his present problems, he is not aware that he neglected some of his subjects that live further from his castle.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
To begin with, Souma made the forbidden army do the work of constructing the road and port. He taught the people how to make roads using the knowledge of science he brought from Earth. Not only that, but he also explained to Liscia why the road is made like that, and the importance of “Warding Trees” beside the road.
I’m still amazed that details regarding science were explained in every episode of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. I can understand it because of the degree I’m taking, so it makes me more interested in this anime. I feel like I can learn something here that I can’t learn in school.
The Disaster in the God-Protected Forest
While having a peaceful conversation, Aisha has received a message that there was a landslide in her hometown and there were so many casualties. Souma immediately pulls the forbidden army and sends “God-Protected Forest” for a rescue mission. When they arrived, hundreds were already dead. Souma uses his poltergeist ability to search for other bodies under the soil, which really takes a toll on him.
Souma’s Feelings
Souma suspects that one of the reasons for the landslide is the fact that villagers are not taking care of the forest. He explains to Aisha the importance of while trying to keep calm in the situation. However, as they are about to go home, Souma tells Liscia that he couldn’t do anything this time. His role was to be a king and he failed. Liscia tries to comfort him but he states that it is a king’s duty to prepare for a disaster before it happened.
Hopefully, this experience helps Souma become a better king in the future. Seems like he really took it hard, since the episode ended with him feeling distressed.
If you are curious about what will be his future moves because of what happened this time, stay tuned to the anime. Episode 9 will air on August 29, 2021, and you can watch it on Funimation.
