Rurouni Kenshin (2023) Reveals New Trailer and Visual for the 2nd Cour Which Begins in October

Rurouni Kenshin (2023) has released a new trailer along with a key visual for the anime’s second cour, which will begin on October 5, 2023. The new information was released right after the broadcast of the 13th episode on September 28, 2023. You can watch the new trailer below:

The first part of the video shows the summarized scenes from different arcs that occurred in the first 13 episodes. The second half of the trailer features the upcoming scenes that will be shown in the second cour, along with the new opening song, “Rurou no Katashiro”, by Masaki Suda and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and the ending theme titled “Sonzai Shoumei” (Existence), which was performed by KID PHENOMENON. New theme song information was revealed during the Aniplex Online Fest 2023. The new key visual is also available:

Rurouni Kenshin (2023) – Second Cour Key Visual

The visual features Kenshin Himura (Soma Saitou), Kaorou Kamiya (Rie Takahashi), and Sanosuke Sagara (Taku Yashiro). Two new characters included in the upper right of the visual will be introduced in the second cour. Fujita Gorou (formerly known as Saitou Hajime) (voiced by Satoshi Hino) can also be seen in the upper left, although he was also part of Rurouni Kenshin‘s first key visual, he is yet to be introduced in the series.

Rurouni Kenshin (2023) premiered on July 6, 2023. Hideyo Yamamoto is directing the series at studio Liden Films. You can watch the series on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime Video. The anime is based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga series. It was published by Shueisha from 1994 to 1999 in Weekly Shounen Jump magazine. A sequel titled Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc debuted in 2017, under the same publisher. The manga series had its first anime adaptation in 1996-1999 by studio Gallop and DEEN along with several OVAs and side stories. The manga also had 5 live-action adaptations from 2012 to 2021.

The second cour of the new anime series will start by covering the 5th volume of the manga and Viz Media, the English publisher of the series describes the plot as:
Isurugi Raijûta, a truly old-school swordsman, comes to Kenshin and requests his aid in reforming the state of swordsmanship schools, or kenjutsu dojo, in Japan. Although Kenshin is intrigued by Raijûta’s ideals (chiefly, that there is a need for a nation-wide, unifying school), Raijûta’s plan to “weed out” the schools he deems unfit is not in accordance with Kenshin’s deepest-held beliefs. Given the choice of either joining Raijûta’s “Shinko-ryû” movement or dying, Kenshin walks away, choosing neither. But Raijûta isn’t willing to let Kenshin off the hook so easily…
