The upcoming Senpai Is an Otokonoko anime adaptation unveiled a new key visual along with the opening and ending theme songs and a July 4 premiere on Sunday. Kujira, who is also known as Whale Don’t Sleep, is performing both opening and ending theme songs titled “Wagamama” and “Are ga Koi datta no kana,” respectively.
Studio Project No. 9 is animating the series with Shinsuke Yanagi as director. Yoriko Tomita is in charge of the series composition and Shoto Shinkai is doing the character designs. Meanwhile, Yukari Hashimoto is composing the music. The anime previously unveiled a trailer and it features the main cast that consists of:
- Shuichiro Umeda as Makoto Hanaokam
- Akira Sekina as Saki Aoi
- Yuma Uchida as Ryuji Taiga
The Senpai Is an Otokonoko anime adaptation is based on a manga written and illustrated by Pom. The manga was digitally published through Line Manga from 2019 to 2021 then Ichijinsha acquired the title in 2021 and has since published 7 volumes. The 8th is set to release in April this year. The manga ranked on Anime Japan’s “Manga We Want To See Animated” poll in 2022. Webtoon is distributing the manga in English and they described it as follows:
Can true love really overcome any obstacles? Saki, a high school student, confesses her feelings to Makoto. Taken aback, Makoto reveals his secret, but the sudden discovery doesn’t seem to bother Saki who is already head over heels for him. After being rejected, Saki asks Ryuji, Makoto’s childhood friend, for some advice on how to win his heart. A love triangle unfolds when Ryuji realizes that he might also have some feelings for his old friend.
