Shinkai, who also directed the Suzume no Tojimari movie, commented on the novel on Twitter. He said that this is his third novel and that he didn’t think he would be able to finish it. At the time, he was working on completing the movie and was “almost crying” because of how difficult it was. Shinkai states that although it was the most difficult thing he has ever done, it was also the most joyful. He hopes everyone will be able to enjoy the story since it is on a completely different level from the movie.

Suzume no Tojimari was first announced in December 2021, and a visual was released in April this year. A trailer featuring the main heroine Suzume Iwato was released in July. Japanese actress Nanoka Hara will be voicing the main character and she was selected from a pool of over 1,700 auditionees.

Makoto Shinkai’s modern adventure and story about a girl’s freedom and growth sets off.
