Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume, which premiered on November 11, 2022, will begin streaming exclusively on Crunchyroll today, November 16, 2023, at 5 pm PT. Suzume will be available in the following territories: North America, Central America, South America, Europe (excluding France), Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. The film was first released in theaters worldwide by Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures, and Wild Bunch International, and returned in October in hopes of passing Shinkai’s Your Name at the box office.
Furthermore, a complete manga version of Shinkai’s box-office hit Weathering With You was added to K MANGA on November 2, 2023. The K MANGA X account captioned the announcement, “The manga reveals the backstories and true thoughts of the characters who stole the hearts of fans and critics worldwide.” The Weathering With You manga on K MANGA is only available in the United States.

“Suzume” is a coming-of-age story for the 17-year-old protagonist, Suzume, set in various disaster-stricken locations across Japan, where she must close the doors causing devastation.
Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she encounters a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob… Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.
