Solo Leveling webtoon is getting a side story dedicated to the artist DUBU (Jang Sung-Rak) who passed away last year. He was the CEO of the Redice Studio. Details about the plot are still unknown, but a group of artists will illustrate the story in DUBU’s honor. The side story will launch of KakaoPage and Webtoon on January 21, and after that, it will be updated every Wednesday.
The announcement made by the studio states that DUBU’s colleagues gathered to honor his legacy:
“He was respected by everyone he worked with. He ran a company and a studio while training many outstanding students and leaving them to the world. He was a leader, teacher, and pioneer of art.” DUBU passed away at 37 due to a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a chronic illness.
Solo Leveling webtoon, which featured art by DUBU, ended after 178 episodes and 3 years of serialization last year. The webtoon adaptation originally started on KakaoPage in Korea in 2018 and ended in 2021. It is based on a web novel by Chugong, while h-goon helped adapt the work. An anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures is in the works.
Tappytoon describes the plot as:
In a world where awakened beings called “Hunters” must battle deadly monsters to protect humanity, Sung Jinwoo, nicknamed “the weakest hunter of all mankind,” finds himself in a constant struggle for survival. One day, after a brutal encounter in an overpowered dungeon wipes out his party and threatens to end his life, a mysterious System chooses him as its sole player: Jinwoo has been granted the rare opportunity to level up his abilities, possibly beyond any known limits. Follow Jinwoo’s journey as he takes on ever-stronger enemies, both human and monster, to discover the secrets deep within the dungeons and the ultimate extent of his powers.
