Solo Levelling Webtoon Artist DUBU Passes Away

Solo Leveling webtoon artist DUBU (Jang Sung-Rak) has passed away due to a cerebral hemorrhage, REDICE Studio announced earlier today. The artist had a chronic illness and his health suddenly deteriorated, according to the statement.

Redice Studio thanked the fans for their support and wished the best of luck to Jang Sung-Rak, while also telling fans to send their prayers to a better place.

Solo Leveling webtoon, which featured art by DUBU, recently ended after 178 episodes and 3 years of serialization. The webtoon adaptation originally started on KakaoPage in Korea in 2018 and ended in 2021. It is based on a web novel by Chugong, while h-goon helped adapt the work. An anime adaptation was announced during Anime Expo 2022 earlier this month. Webnovel describes the plot as:

In this world where Hunters with various magical powers battle monsters from invading the defenceless humanity, Seong Jin-Woo was the weakest of all the Hunters, barely able to make a living.
However, a mysterious System grants him the power of the ‘Player’, setting him on a course for an incredible and often times perilous Journey.
Follow Sang Jin-Woo as he embarks on an adventure to become an unparalleled existence through his “Level-Up” system – the only one in the entire world!
