The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 revealed a new visual, trailer, and a January 10, 2025 release date. The sequel will run for 2 consecutive cours. The news were revealed at a special program for the anime which featured the voice actors for Maomao and Jinshi, Aoi Yuki and Takeo Otsuka. It was held on October 22, exactly one year since the first season premiered in 2023.

TOHO Animation Studio and OLM are returning to animate. They also revealed a new key visual.

TOHO Animation Studio and OLM animated the first season, with Norihiro Naganuma as the director. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, and they also confirmed that the sequel will be coming to the platform in 2025. The voice cast consists of the following members:

  • Aoi Yuki as Maomao
  • Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi
  • Megumi Han as Meimei
  • Katsuyuki Konishi as Gaoshun
  • Yui Ishikawa as Lihua
  • Misaki Kuno as Xiaolan
  • Yuko Kaida as Ah-Duo
  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Gyokuyo
  • Hina Kino as Lishu
  • Takuya Kirimoto as Lakan Kan
  • Ami Koshimizu as Pairin

They also revealed a new seasonal visual. The August visual featured Maomao and Xiaolan, the September visual featured Jinshi and Gaoshun, and you can see the October visual below.

Natsu Hyuga writes the The Apothecary Diaries light novel, with illustrations by Toko Shino. It is serialized by Shunfunotomo. The series has 2 manga adaptation, one written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage, and one written and illustrated by Minoji Kurata. The former is published by Square Enix and serialized in Monthly GanGan, while the latter is published by Shogakukan and serialized in Monthly Sunday Gene-X.

There is also a short mini-anime series called Maomao’s Diaries (Maomao no Hitorigoto), which features the main character Maomao explaining things that were shown during the regular TV anime episodes.

The Apothecary Diaries light novel series is licensed and published digitally in English by J-Novel Club. The manga adaptation is published by Square Enix. The story follows the young apothecary Maomao as she gets sold to the emperor’s palace as a lowly servant. She’s not the type of character to just stay obedient, and she ends up helping Jinshi, a handsome official at the palace and getting a promotion. There’s plenty of mysteries at the palace, and she now has plenty of adventures there, all the while accidentally making Jinshi fall for her more and more.
