The Colors Within (Kimi no Iro) movie by the director Naoko Yamada has revealed a new visual ahead of its August 30 premiere in Japan. The movie revealed a new trailer before it had its world premiere earlier this month at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Science SARU animated the movie, while GKIDS licensed it for North America and will release in Winter 2025.
Reiko Yoshida wrote the script, with Kensuke Ushio composing the music. The original character designs were made by Daisuke Richard, while Takashi Kojima was in charge of adapting them for the movie. The main cast includes:
- Sayu Suzukawa as Totsuko Higurashi
- Akari Takaishi as Kimi Sakunaga
- Taisei Kido as Rui Kagehira
- Yui Aragaki as Hiyoshiko
The official synopsis for the movie:
“I can see people’s hearts in colors.”
Totsuko is a high school student at religious high chool in Nagasaki and she can see people’s emotions as colors.
Whether they’re happy colors, sad colors, peaceful colors, frightened colors… In order to not darken her loved ones’ colors, Totsuko is careful about keeping them all bright and happy.
One day, she mees a beautiful girl in a bookstore, who radiates all kinds of beautiful colors. Two of them end up forming a band with a boy who loves music.
These three sensitive people get together and begin to play the music of their youth.
The movie was initially slated to premiere in 2023 but was pushed back to this year.
