Nintendo has released an overview trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, opening pre-orders and confirming that the game will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Pre-orders for the game are available now.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment previously released for the Nintendo Switch 2 as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The new version is described as being built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2. The trailer shows Link’s journey through Hyrule, including dungeon exploration, puzzle solving, battles against monsters and the use of items such as the Ocarina of Time.

The game will also support ZELDA NOTES, a game-specific service available through the Nintendo Switch App for smart devices.

Two new amiibo figures are also planned alongside the release. Tapping them will grant special in-game masks, while compatible amiibo featuring characters from The Legend of Zelda series will also provide items that may help during the adventure.

Originally released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan in November 1998 before launching internationally later that year, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most influential video games ever made. Developed by Nintendo EAD and directed by Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi under producer Shigeru Miyamoto, the game introduced many mechanics that later became standards for 3D action-adventure titles, including lock-on targeting, context-sensitive actions, and cinematic storytelling in a 3D environment.

The game follows Link as he travels between childhood and adulthood to stop Ganondorf from obtaining the Triforce and plunging Hyrule into darkness. Following its release, Ocarina of Time has become critically acclaimed for its world design, gameplay, and music, winning numerous awards and often appearing in lists of the greatest video games ever made.

The game has since sold more than 14 million copies, including its Nintendo 64 original version and the enhanced Nintendo 3DS remake released in 2011. Its influence can still be seen throughout the Zelda franchise, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom being the direct sequel that released in 2023.
