The Legend of Zelda Will Bring The Ghibli Magic, Says Director

The Legend of Zelda live-action film, still without a release date, will supposedly bring the magic of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. Director Wes Ball outlined his vision of the upcoming film adaptation as: “This awesome fantasy-adventure movie that isn’t like Lord of the Rings, it’s its own thing. I’ve always said, I would love to see a live-action Miyazaki. That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that.”

Whether Ghibli translates well to live-action is yet to be revealed. However, the director’s passion for the film is evident, as he adds:
It’s going to be awesome,” Ball promises. “My whole life has led up to this moment. I grew up on Zelda and it is the most important property, I think, that’s untapped IP, if you will. So we very much are working hard to do something. We’re not just trying to do it because we can. We want to make something really special.

The Legend of Zelda live-action has yet to reveal the core details of the film since the announcement on November 8. Co-creator of the original game franchise Shigeru Miyamoto is representing Nintendo, which will be producing the film alongside Arad Productions. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for distributing the film worldwide. Fans got their most recent taste of Ghibli’s unique vibe with the release of The Boy and the Heron, which is among the best-received in the franchise’s history. Anime Corner’s Gerrymelyn called the film “truly a Miyazaki film” with stunning visuals and animation in her The Boy and the Heron review.
