KADOKAWA announced that The Rising of the Shield Hero manga and light novel series have exceeded 11 million cumulative copies in circulation. Volume 20 of the manga series, which was illustrated by Aiya Kyu was also released on the same day of the announcement, February 22, 2022.
Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Station’s Metro Promenade also promoted the release of the volume by putting a large advertisement:
Media Factory started publishing Aneko Yusagi’s The Rising of the Shield Hero light novel series in August 2013, and it currently has 22 volumes in circulation. The series was originally a web novel series that was published on the user-generated Shosetsuka ni Naro website from 2012 to 2015. The manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu has also been serialized by the same publisher since 2014 (20 volumes). One Piece Books licensed the series in English.

An anime adaptation by Kinema Citrus aired in 2019. Takao Abo (Norn9) directed the series, while Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss) took care of the animation. At that time, The Rising of the Shield Hero light novel series only had around 4 million copies in circulation. Season 2 is premiering in April 2022. Masato Jinbo (Restaurant to Another World) is directing the sequel, while Kinema Citrus and DR Movie are animating it.
