TOHO Set to Acquire 19.7% of Studio Orange Shares

TOHO is planning to take over 19.7% of the CG studio Orange shares, the companies announced earlier this week. The acquisition is happening on January 17, 2025, and follows successful collaboration on titles such as Trigun Stampede, BEASTARS, and Land of the Lustrous. The announcement states that the companies will aim to improve the quality of their work, expand studios, and secure a workforce both in and outside Japan.

Prior to the share acquisition of studio Orange, TOHO bought 6% of shares in CoMix Wave Films. Additionally, the company bought the studio Science SARU (acquisition set to happen by February 2025) and American anime film distributor GKIDS. Just like Orange, TOHO had an already established cooperation with these companies.

Studio Orange recently unveiled the first part of BEASTARS Final Season, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The second part still doesn’t have a release date but next year, the studio is also releasing an anime adaptation of the Leviathan novel by Scott Westerfield. Orange was founded in 2004 by Eiji Inomoto. At this year’s Anime Expo, Orange revealed that it is working on the sequel anime to Trigun Stampede. Its title is Trigun Stargaze.
