BanG Dream! did it again. They kept the tradition alive and delivered yet another amazing Episode 10.
In my last review, Yumemita’s situation kept getting worse, and at first, I honestly couldn’t see how everything could possibly be resolved in the very next episode. Somehow, they did it, and what surprised me most was that it never felt rushed.
Basically, what happened was that one of the problems just decided to stop being a problem to solve another problem. That’s literally what happened with Nonoka because she simply stopped worrying about what everyone expected from her or what other people were saying about her. Even with a lot of thins are weighing her down, she refuses to give up. It showed just how much resolve she actually has. I genuinely thought it might be Arale’s charming voice that would save her, or perhaps someone from Nonoka’s past would appear and give her the encouragement she needed to get back on her feet. But no.
Nonoka does it herself, and I love that. It goes to show that you can’t always rain on someone’s parade just because life gets difficult. Some people are simply that bright and cheerful, and no matter how hard things get, they refuse to let the sunshine disappear. It’s always sunny on Nonoka and that’s really what makes her so special.
She carried this episode so hard. This was Nonoka’s moment. If Tomori was the one who brought MyGO!!!!! back together in BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! Episode 10, and who also played a huge part in Ave Mujica’s reunion in BanG Dream! Ave Mujica – The Die Is Cast – Episode 10, then Nonoka is the backbone of Yumemita.
I’m still surprised by how Yumemita turned out because almost everything I initially thought about Nonoka was wrong. I always assumed she would be the supportive character of the band, the character who lifts everyone’s spirits and motivates them to get back together but not really the one who will initiate doing what’s right. But no, she was both the support and the carry of this band. It wasn’t Yuno, whom I previously called the dark horse of the group. It was Nonoka all along.
Yuno, on the other hand, we got a piece of her backstory as well. And now it’s clear why she decided to “quit” the band. I get that; she’s just really passionate about music and wants to be surrounded by people who are as passionate as she is. But when everything was falling apart for the band, she decided to in a way dip while keeping her music career alive. And with Nonoka reuniting everyone, I don’t think Yuno’s decision not to perform with the band will continue.
Also, the cast for Yuno’s old band was insanely stacked. I immediately recognize those voices. It’s insane how BanG Dream! keeps casting popular seiyus for their side bands and it was a really great casting choice as well since Yuno’s oshi is Maaya Uchida. Now I can’t help but picture Yuno giggling while in the recording booth, knowing that she and her favorite seiyu had canon interactions in the world of anime.
With almost everything resolved, we finally get to see the true nature of Mugendai MewType: chaos. The beach scene was glorious because MewType’s personalities were on full display. They’re just a bunch of dorks doing stupid things together, yet somehow, they do it harmoniously. In their chaos, there is harmony, and that’s probably the best way I can describe this band. They’re basically a chaotic-good band and I find that oddly amusing.
I’ll admit it: Mugendai MewType wasn’t really my cup of tea at first. If I had to rank the main BanG Dream! bands based on how much I love their characters, themes, and music, MewType would honestly have been second to last. (Disclaimer: I love all the bands and don’t dislike any of them.) But somehow, after watching their story unfold and seeing who these girls really are, MewType has now climbed into my Top 5. I’ve grown attached to these idiots, and I love them for it.
That’s what makes Episode 10 so special. This is easily Yumemita’s best episode so far because, for the first time, it felt like the series was completely screaming that this is Mugendai MewType. It was chaotic, dramatic, and ridiculous, but amidst all of this, it was also incredibly wholesome.
One major factor in why this episode was so peak was the complete absence of Viola. For the first time in the series, Viola didn’t make a single appearance, and that’s exactly why this episode felt so much like MewType. Without Viola looming over everything, the girls finally had the chance to simply be themselves. We got to see their personalities, their chemistry, and the ridiculous harmony that exists within their chaos.
But after watching the episode, nothing is truly resolved yet. There’s still that lingering feeling that this is simply the calm before the storm as Viola is still out there. She still has all those recordings and she’s plotting something sinister. I’m sure that she’s going to drop a nuke in the next few episodes. But I also feel strangely confident that whatever Viola throws at them, Yumemita can withstand it now because of their newfound resolve.
Viola might be the most evil creature BanG Dream! has ever created, but unlucky for her because she’s up against BanG Dream!’s most chaotic band yet. I just hope the remaining episodes don’t disappoint and that the eventual clash between Yumemita and Viola gets the cinematic payoff this story has been building toward.
Now, BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA has reached a fork in the road. Will it go down the MyGO!!!!! path, giving us a relatively peaceful climax while ultimately birthing a new band that goes on to make waves? Or will it take the Ave Mujica path, revealing something we haven’t even considered yet and triggering an even bigger crashout than Uika and Sakiko being aunt and niece? At this point, I genuinely have no idea, and that’s what makes the wait for the next episode so exciting.
But for now, BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA Episode 10 is one of my favorites in the entire franchise.
