27 – Nozomi Suemitsu

Suemitsu, representing the Moon arcana, is probably one of the more universally disliked characters in the game. The reasons are pretty easy to see. Suemitsu is the fat joke of the game and member of a cult, often despised within the game for scamming his classmates out of their money in the name of finding salvation through the cult. While I don’t mind the humor surrounding Suemitsu and how much he enjoys eating, it got old incredibly fast.

The Social Link eventually explains that he eats so much because he feels in control and grounded when he does so. It also reveals that his binge eating happened after his brother died and he fell deep into an identity crisis. What it does not do is give any satisfying context to the cult Suemitsu is a part of. If it did, that might have been some decent redemption for Suemitsu’s Link. The better parts of his Link had potential, but they were overshadowed by the bad.
