The romantic comedy Girlfriend, Girlfriend was voted by our fans as the best new anime of the season for Summer 2021! 2nd anime of the season overall, only behind the sequel for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. The story followed Naoya Mukai, whose straightforwardness put him in a lot of awkward situations that were often nonsensical yet funny. Although it only ranked 1st once, the anime was actually one of the most consistent shows with our fans, never dropping out of top 10, and consistently ranking in the upper half.

The anime has Enoki Junya voicing the MC Naoya, and hearing Itadori Yuuji made the character’s over the top dialogue even funnier (to the Jujutsu Kaisen fans). As for the girls’ cast, it was pretty stacked. The show had Sakura Ayane as Saki, Waki Azumi as Nagisa, Taketatsu Ayana as Milika and Takahashi Rie as Shino. It was a fun watch without trying to find some logic in it, and the voice cast was a big reason that made it even more entertaining.
The Top 10 Anime of the Season for Summer 2021:
The results are based on the 12 weeks of Summer 2021, together with the final “Anime of the Season” poll. 32, 716 people participated, and there were over 250,000+ total votes registered (fans could vote every week, plus for more than 1 show). This is the result of the overall rating, so e.g. Tensura, which got a late boost with Walpurgis and ranked 1st twice, still couldn’t rank 1st overall due to the lower ranking in previous weeks.
