On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, the official website for the Given anime announced that the series would receive a new original video animation (OVA), and a live-action series adaptation.
The OVA will focus on Mafuyu and Ritsuka’s relationship, taking place during the events of the Given film. It is titled Given: Uragawa no Sonzai (Given: The One on the Flip-Side). The DVD featuring the OVA will ship with a special edition of the manga’s seventh volume on December 1, 2021. Pre-orders are available until August 29 of the same year.
As for the live-action adaptation, it consists of 6 episodes and will premiere on Fuji TV’s FOD streaming service. Its release date is July 17, 2021. The series will feature musical artist Sanari as Mafuyu Sato, Jin Suzuki as Ritsuka Ueonyama. Meanwhile, Akihiko Kaji will be played by Kai Inowaki and Haruki Nakayama by Shuntaro Yanagi.
Given‘s anime adaptation premiered in July 2019, on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. The boys love anime is based on Natsuki Kizu’s manga of the same name, serialized in Shinshokan’s Sheri Plus since 2013. The series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
Somehow, the guitar that he used to love to play and the basketball games that he found so fun just lost their appeal. That was until Ritsuka Uenoyama randomly met Mafuyu Sato. Ritsuka had started losing his passion for music in his everyday life, but then he hears Mafuyu sing for the first time. The song resonates with his heart and the distance between them starts to change. (Via Crunchyroll website)
The latest addition to the Given franchise is GIVEN The Movie, which debuted in Japan in August 2020. As of February, it is also available to stream on Crunchyroll.
