Isekai Maou Season 2 Episode 5: Leveling Up

Isekai Maou Season 2 episode 5 of the second season just premiered. You may also know it as Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω or How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord. This season has had no breaks, with action at every stop. Makes sense for a show that’s listed with only 10 episodes.

As such, no episode so far this season has felt boring, with plenty of excitement to go around. Episode 5 was no exception as from beginning to end, our characters show how much they have grown. Full credit to the animation team and voice actors for putting out a great product every week. Be prepared for some slight spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched episode 5 yet.

This episode picks up right where the last one left off. Horn collapsed into the chasm below and is swept away by the current. Diablo leaps after him attempting to save the drowning boy. Shera, Rem, and Lumachina all scream in horror, as they watch the demon lord disappear into the water beneath them.

All is well though as we get to see two different points of view from here on out. One from Diablo, after he drags Horn to safety sacrificing his gear to do it. The second being the girls as they try to cope with trying to finish the dungeon without Diablo.

While trying to warm the two of them up, Diablo strips Horn to dry off their clothes. As it turns out Horn is actually a girl, and Diablo unintentionally made a mistake. Not a worry though as our demon lord is not here to dwell on it and calmly excuses himself to give her some space. After some dialogue to work things out, and some time for the clothes to dry, the pair take off to find the others.

While walking, Horn exclaims that she’s worried about the others. She wonders if they will be alright, but Diablo assures that they will. He praises their talents and says that the trio has the strength to make it to the final floor without him.

I really appreciated this change. It’s nice not seeing the girls purely as damsels. Obviously, they are not as strong as Diablo, and he has protected them for some time. However, the girls have a certain strength of their own and it super nice to see Diablo recognize it.

Next, we get to see girls reaching the final floor. They triumph unfortunately only to meet Gewalt who rises up, showing life after their last encounter. They break out into a ferocious fight, and just when it seems Gewalt has an edge as the guardian descends. A Black dragon awaits and he holds no regard for either of them.

Gewalt takes the lead and brings out his trump card, the ultimate fire summon, Ifrit, to fight the beast. The fire demon unleashes some serious firepower, but all for naught. The dragon is unfazed and silences both summoner and the summon quickly.

The dragon focuses his next attack on the girls, but Diablo emerges to unload his own firepower. He uses his knowledge to bring forth some ultimate magic and discards the winged fury with ease. The final guardian within the dungeon emerges as Diablo claims his right as dungeon master.

This episode was great to watch! So many things were happening it was hard to believe when it was over. The usual laughs are always there, with some great action animation to break it up. If you are a fan of Action or Comedy then I cannot rate this show enough as the one to watch this season.
