MARRIAGETOXIN has revealed its main visual for Season 2, which is scheduled to begin streaming in January 2027. A new visual reveal PV was also revealed, along with an interview with director Motonobu Hori about the upcoming season.
The Season 2 visual features the large bridge where Hikaru Gero saved Mei Kinosaki in the first episode. According to the announcement, the composition is intended to emphasize the chemistry between the two as a duo.
Hori confirmed that production on Season 2 is progressing smoothly and teased several developments coming for Gero and Kinosaki. Characters from the first season will return, while Gero will also encounter a new potential marriage partner.
“An appealing new marriage prospect appears for Gero, and of course there are scenes in which the relationship between Gero and Kinosaki deepens through various developments, so I hope people enjoy that side of it as well.”
Hori said the goal is to maintain the first season’s momentum despite the demanding production, describing his intention to make a season that carries viewers through from beginning to end with the same energy.
The director also reflected on the response to Season 1 at Anime Expo 2026. Hori attended the event alongside Haruki Ishiya, who voices Gero, and Shion Wakayama, who voices Kinosaki, and said the enthusiastic overseas audience surprised him.
“I had thought the content of the source material was very Japanese, so I honestly did not imagine that audiences overseas would take to it so warmly.”
Discussing his approach to the adaptation, Hori explained that one of MARRIAGETOXIN‘s defining qualities is how quickly it shifts between comedy, action, emotional drama and darker material. Rather than treating each genre separately, the production uses elements like music to connect scenes and keep a consistent emotional flow. He also emphasized that the action was deliberately treated seriously, preserving the contrast between Joumyaku’s absurd comedy and Mizuki Yoda’s polished artwork.
