Nintendo Announces Back-to-Back Presentations for The Legend of Zelda and Nintendo Direct on September 8-9

Nintendo has announced two Nintendo Direct presentations for next week, beginning with a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8.

The Legend of Zelda presentation will begin at 7:00 a.m. PT and run for approximately 30 minutes. Nintendo has not yet revealed what will be shown during the broadcast, although updates on the Ocarina of Time are expected. The game was previously confirmed to launch in 2026.

A separate Nintendo Direct will follow on September 9 at 7:00 a.m. PT and is scheduled to run for approximately 45 minutes.

The first presentation specifically commemorates the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which began with the original game in 1986.

The schedule is:

• September 8, 7:00 a.m. PT: The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, approximately 30 minutes
• September 9, 7:00 a.m. PT: Nintendo Direct, approximately 45 minutes

Originally released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan in November 1998 before launching internationally later that year, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most influential video games ever made. Developed by Nintendo EAD and directed by Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi under producer Shigeru Miyamoto, the game introduced many mechanics that later became standards for 3D action-adventure titles.

The game has since sold more than 14 million copies, including its Nintendo 64 original version and the enhanced Nintendo 3DS remake released in 2011. Its influence can still be seen throughout the Zelda franchise, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom being the direct sequel that released in 2023. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment previously released for the Nintendo Switch 2 as a prequel to TotK.

The live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is set to release on April 30, 2027.
