The previously announced Oi Tonbo golf anime will premiere this April, as announced earlier this week with details on the staff, cast, and theme songs. Studio OLM is animating the series, with SMDE doing the CG animation. The cast includes Rika Hayashi as Ooi Tonbo and Hiroki Tochi as Kazuyoshi Igarashi.
Oh Jin-Koo is directing the anime, with Mitsutaka Hirota doing the series composition. Akira Takeuchi is doing the character designs, Kazuhiro Arai is the art director, and Nobuko Toda is composing music. The theme songs include “Habatake” by Sacra e sole as the opening theme and “Let’s Swing” by TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI featuring Rika Hayashi.
The Oi Tonbo anime adaptation was announced in May this year, following the manga’s 44th volume in the Weekly Golf Digest. It will adapt the manga written by Ken Kawasaki and illustrated by Yu Furusawa. The manga began serialization in the Weekly Golf Digest in August 2014.
The manga tells the story of Kazuyoshi Igarashi, a man who was expelled from the Japan Professional Golfers’ Association before he turned 50, and Tonbo, a golf prodigy he met on the island of Tokara in Kagoshima Prefecture, and their struggle to become professionals.
