Production I.G’s Kaiju No. 8 anime image series, the “Kaiju Hyakkei,” added a new visual for Soshiro Hoshina on October 31, 2023, via its official website. Hoshina’s visual joins September’s Kikoru Shinomiya and August’s Reno and Kafka. The “Kaiju Hyakkei” series debuts a new character visual each month ahead of the anime’s April 2024 release date. The Kaiju No. 8 anime adapts Naoya Matsumoto’s manga of the same name that debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform in July 2020. The anime’s main trailer and cast were revealed on August 5, 2023, with Masaya Fukunishi voicing Kafka Hibino, alongside Wataru Kato (Reno Ichikawa), and Asami Seto (Mina Ashiro). Character designs of the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force were released in August. The manga series has published 10 volumes with over 11mn copies in circulation as of October 2023.
VIZ Media licenses the Kaiju No. 8 manga for North America and describes it:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
