The upcoming Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of Deep Night- movie will be screened in IMAX theaters nationwide in Japan, and it received a new visual to commemorate the announcement. The anime film will premiere on September 10, 2022. . You can check out the announcement visual below:
The prequel of the movie, Sword Art Online: Progressive -Aria of a Starless Night- also premiered in IMAX theatres on October 30, 2021. It was also the first movie to use the IMAX 12-channel sound system in the history of Japanese theaters.
Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of Deep Night- will also have an advanced screening on August 24, 2022 in Japan. A program will be held after the screening, which will be attended by Kirito’s Japanese voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Eir Aoi, the singer of the anime film’s theme song titled “Shinzo“. The movie will adapt the 4th volume of Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series, which centers on the events of Aincrad’s 5th floor. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu are reprising their roles as Kirito and Asuna. Mito (CV: Inori Minase), an anime original character who was introduced in the first progressive movie, and Argo (CV: Shiorizi Izawa), who first appeared in episode 3 of the original Sword Art Online series, will have huge roles in the film.
Ayako Kono is directing the Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of Deep Night- at studio A-1 Pictures. It’s the same studio director who worked on the Sword Art Online: Progressive -Aria of a Starless Night- movie.

ASCII Media Works has been publishing Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series with abec’s illustrations since 2012, and it currently has 8 volumes in circulation. Yen Press is serializing the light novel series in English and describes the plot of the 4th volume as:
