Attack On Titan Creator Hajime Isayama Recommends Soccer Manga Blue Lock

With Attack on Titan close to ending (final chapter releases in April), fans might look for something else. In a promotional leaflet of Attack on Titan Volume 33, Hajime Isayama recommends an ongoing manga titled “Blue Lock”. It’s a soccer manga written by Kaneshiro Muneyuki and drawn by Nomura Yuusuke. It’s serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine (same as Fire Force, Rent-A-Girlfriend, Edens Zero, etc.).

The tweet quotes Isayama-sensei saying everyone in Japan should definitely read Blue Lock. He also invites the fans to check out the manga after Attack on Titan ends.

In addition, check out the cover of Volume 12:

The manga is a hardcore sports one, and you can also read the full synopsis below:

The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup. Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate —who missed— without trying to make the game-changing goal by himself.

Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock” and put them through rigorous training aimed at creating “the world’s greatest egotist striker.

It already sounds interesting, and the fact Hajime Isayama himself recommends Blue Lock is huge. Let’s hope it grows even more popular and the anime rumor turns out true!
