The Saga of Tanya the Evil: Another Story of the Battalion is a collection of short stories published in the KADOKAWA’s Comp Ace magazine. Some of those stories include “Visha’s Trail” and “Grantz’s Letter,” which depict the past and future of the 203rd Battalion personnel. The first volume will also feature a story titled “Borrowed Cat.” This story inspired the cover of the first volume.
The Saga of Tanya the Evil series is a light novel written by Carlo Zen and illustrated by Shinobu Shinotsuki. The Arcadia website first published it from 2010 to 2017 before Enterbrain acquired the title and began serializing it in October of 2017, with 14 volumes currently out. The manga adaptation with art by Chika Tojo has been serialized in Comp Ace magazine since April 2016. The series also has a spin-off manga, Youjo Senki Restaurant.
Yen Press has licensed both the light novels and manga in English, describing the first volume as:
High above the blood- and mud-soaked trenches, a young girl pits herself against army mages in high stakes aerial duels with bullets, spells, and bayonets. Her name is Tanya Degurechaff and she is the Devil of the Rhine, one of the greatest soldiers the Empire has ever seen! But inside her mind lives a ruthless, calculating ex-salaryman who enjoyed a peaceful life in Japan until he woke up in a war-torn world. Reborn as a destitute orphaned girl with nothing to her name but memories of a previous life, Tanya will do whatever it takes to survive, even if she can find it only behind the barrel of a gun!
An anime adaptation by NUT aired from January to March 2017 for 12 episodes, followed by a movie in 2019. A new season is in the works. The characters from the series are also a part of the Isekai Quartet comedy crossover anime, which features other Kadokawa works.
