Jujutsu Kaisen Streamed Episodes to Switch to Blu-ray & DVD Versions on December 1st

Per a post from the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, the videos used for streaming service versions of Jujutsu Kaisen will be gradually replaced with the Blu-ray and DVD versions starting December 1st. This is being done in part as a commemoration of the broadcast of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. There is no official schedule of when the changes will begin to take effect on a streaming service by streaming service basis. You can check out the original post below:

While anime Blu-ray releases typically have changes from the originally aired version of an anime such as reduced dimming, the removal of some censorship, and occasional clean up of scenes that were rushed or submitted in the production version of the title at less than 100%, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is notable for it’s more or less overhaul of some animation that was very critiqued at the time of release. Specifically, Season 2 Episode 17, the episode during which Sukuna faces off against Mahoraga, was generally seen as an incomplete episode. This came in part from viewer observations of incomplete-seeming animation sequences and in part due to tweets from an animator who worked on the episode and noted that it was only “30% of the intended visione [sic],” though this tweet was later deleted and the animator noted that they “shouldn’ t [sic] have used a number” due to it being over-indexed upon.

In reality, the episode likely suffered from a difficult and arduous production schedule and was released in a form that would have been improved upon given more time or resources. The preview images for the episode were delayed by ~ 5 hours to give as much time as possible to produce quality content ahead of its release. Several accounts from individual animators noted issues with the production schedule, though those posts were later deleted. MAPPA in general was heavily criticized at the time for alleged poor working conditions, with this sentiment heavily amplified by all of the eyes on a series as popular as Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 – Teaser Visual

In addition to the standard removal of dimming and ghosting, the Blu-ray version of Season 2 Episode 17 features meaningful animation changes to the Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight and includes entirely new sequences that are completely absent in the original version that aired. Other episodes also have some minor corrected visuals, such as a scene where Toji’s face is corrected. The removal of dimming and ghosting will likely be what is most noticeable for the majority of the replaced episodes while Season 2 Episode 17 will shine for its newly included sequences.

Crunchyroll streams both seasons of MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen TV anime, as well as the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film. Season 3 adapting The Culling Game arc will air in Japan and stream on Crunchyroll on January 8th 2026Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution is a compilation film that depicts the events of Season 2’s Shibuya Incident arc and previews the first two episodes of Season 3. That film released in Japan on November 7, 2025 and will release in North America on December 5th, 2025, with additional releases and screenings dependent on your exact region.
