Cygames, Inc. now boasts another accomplishment in its long line of successes. Umamusume: Pretty Derby has won the Best Mobile Game award at the 2025 edition of The Game Awards.
While receiving the award, Motohiro Okubo, Cygames America’s CEO, was quoted as saying, “It is a tremendous honor to receive this umazing award; this was only possible with the support of our fans. We deeply appreciate all the Umamusume trainers out there. To the people who are not familiar with Cygames, we are dedicated to being the best entertainment, and we will promise you more wild content…”
Umamusume: Pretty Derby
Announced in 2016 and released in Japan in February 2021, Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a mobile game with gacha mechanics that features female anthropomorphized versions of renowned racehorses. The game was released via Windows on March 10, 2021. In 2022, the game received a Korean version by Kakao Games and a Traditional Chinese version by Komoe Game. Cygames, Inc. released the English (Global) version in June 2025 through Steam, iOS, and Android stores.
Since its reveal, the Umamusume franchise has produced several anime from anime studios such as P.A. Works, Studio Kai, and CygamesPictures. In addition to four TV anime, the franchise also includes various manga, OVAs, live events, a spin-off game, a YouTube channel, and a theatrical film.
The Umamusume game features female anthropomorphic versions of past racehorses. Players train the characters and guide them through their first three racing years. The franchise has been well received by the otaku and horse racing communities, with the latter even crediting the game with the sport’s revival among a younger audience.
Cygames, Inc. has partnered with prestigious horse races like The Kentucky Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris to promote the Umamusume game and their IPs.
