Anime! Anime! interviewed My Dress-Up Darling staff Sho Someno (Season 2 animation producer), Shota Umehara (Season 1 animation producer, Season 2 production desk), Rikako Yamamoto (setting production), where the trio discussed the reaction to the series and shared behind-the-scenes details, such as how staff would buy and wear cosplay items to provide reference material, as well as the production difficulties and approach to making the original anime contained within the My Dress-Up Darling universe.

For fans of Season 2 who are waiting for a Season 3 announcement, Umehara says:
The production is a complete blank slate [meaning nothing has been decided or started on], but if all things align, I would like to make another one. I can’t make a sloppy anime. I want to express my gratitude to all the viewers.” He later added that he would be grateful if people watched Season 2 and bought the original work, as without new viewers/readers, My Dress-Up Darling cannot grow, and thanked fans for buying the merch and DVDs/Blu-Rays, identifying that as something special rather than just the natural consequence of making something great.

Additionally, while things may always change on this front, Umehara said his production line can currently only make one work per year. He mentioned this in the context of how, through My Dress-Up Darling Season 2’s use of multiple original anime, many talented team members were able to do character designs who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.

It’s a great interview for the behind-the-scenes of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2, and does give some hope to fans who want My Dress-Up Darling Season 3. You can check it out in full below.
