A Yo-Kai Watch: Puni Puni X Rent-A-Girlfriend Collaboration Is on the Way

Level-5, the company behind the Yo-kai Watch franchise, has announced a Yo-kai Watch: Puni Puni x Rent-a-Girlfriend collaboration. The limited-time collaboration will start on August 17 and feature Kanojo Okarishimasu’s lead heroine, Chizuru Ichinose, who’ll have several game-exclusive lines. Players will be able to unlock Chizuru’s character through a gacha. They’ll also be able to play a “mini collab bingo” where they can win date tickets with the kawaii heroine.

Yo-kai Watch: Puni Puni x Rent-A-Girlfriend Details

The Yo-kai Watch franchise includes several games, manga, TV anime, and theatrical films. The main plot of most of Yo-kai Watch consists of collecting and befriending yokai. Level-5 launched Yo-kai Watch: Puni Puni for iOS and Android in Japan in October 2015. The company released the game in North America and Australia in March 2016. The European launch followed on March 30, 2017. The puzzle game is also known as Yo-Kai Watch: Wibble Wobble. Level-5 discontinued the game for international markets in May 2018.

Rent-A-Girlfriend, known in Japan as Kanokari, is a rom-com manga written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) has serialized Kanokari since its July 2017 debut. Kodansha has compiled the manga into 46 chapters. Kodansha USA releases both Kanokari and its spin-off manga, Rent-A-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend. TMS Entertainment adapted the manga into a five-season TV anime, and a sixth on the way.

The franchise also boasts a live-action TV drama, a visual novel, Rent-A-Girlfriend: The Horizon and the Girl in the Swimsuit, and a crossover smartphone game.

Kanokari follows the “pretend” love life of Kazuya Kinoshita and the rental girlfriend Chizuru Mizuhara (Ichinose). Due to family circumstances, the duo is forced to pretend to be a couple. But soon enough, their pretend feelings become all too real.
