There’s a Krispy Kreme Pokémon Doughnut Collection — Will You Taste Them All?

Written by JP Kristov

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is celebrating Pokémon’s 30th anniversary by launching a Krispy Kreme Pokémon Doughnut Collection. The limited-time collection will be available at select stores until September 13th. With the kawaii slogan “Catch the flavour!”, the collection includes 6 anime-themed doughnuts and 5 acrylic cups filled with 10 Original Glazed® Gold Dots.

The Krispy Kreme Pokémon Doughnut Collection includes:

  • The Bulbasaur doughnut: an Original Glazed® doughnut dipped in vanilla icing and decorated with frosting leaves and a Bulbasaur piece.
  • A Charmander doughnut: an unglazed doughnut dipped in orange-coloured caramel icing, stuffed with chocolate toasted marshmallow filling, and partially topped with red and gold sugar. And of course, a Charmander piece.
  • A Squirtle Doughnut: an Original Glazed® doughnut dipped in sanding sugar and white nonpareils and filled with cotton-candy-flavoured buttercream.
  • Pikachu Doughnut: an unglazed doughnut dipped in vanilla icing and yellow nonpareils, filled with lemon-flavoured Kreme™ filling.
  • The Jigglypuff Doughnut: an Original Glazed® doughnut covered with strawberry-flavoured buttercream and strawberry cookie crumbles. Krispy Kreme declined to comment on whether this doughnut puts you to sleep.
  • And the pièce de résistance, the Poké Ball doughnut: bright red sprinkles, chocolate icing drizzle, and smooth vanilla icing. The perfect homage to a cultural icon.

The Krispy Kreme Pokémon Doughnut Collection will only be available in the US and Canada. Customers can preorder the items online. Retailers like Kroger, Publix, Stater Brothers and Walmart will sell “Speciality 6-Count” sets that include 1 Pikachu doughnut, 1 Jigglypuff doughnut, 1 Charmander doughnut, 1 Poké Ball doughnut, and 2 Original Glazed®. The company did not state whether the doughnut’s Pokémon pieces are edible.

This is one of the latest collaborations between a food giant and an anime franchise. Recently, McCormick launched a One Piece spice set. McDonald’s followed suit with a SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal toy line. In Japan, KFC renewed its Umamusume collaboration for a third time. Several US restaurants have included anime-based collaborations this year as well.
