NTT DOCOMO will discontinue its U.S. digital manga service MANGA MIRAI on December 15, 2026, less than two years after its launch in March 2025. Customers will be able to migrate eligible purchased titles to NTT Solmare’s MangaPlaza.
New account registrations, manga purchases and distribution of the MANGA MIRAI app ended at 7 p.m. Pacific Time on August 19. Viewing through the app also ended at that time, although purchased titles will remain accessible through the MANGA MIRAI website until the service closes at 11:59 p.m. PT on December 15.
MANGA MIRAI launched in March 2025 as a U.S.-focused platform for English-language Japanese manga. According to DOCOMO, its catalog grew to more than 28,000 volumes across 2,400 titles. The company cited the “current business environment” as the reason for ending the service.
Following the closure, customer information and eligible purchased libraries will be transferred to MangaPlaza, the U.S. digital comics platform operated by NTT Solmare. Users who want their purchases transferred must create a MangaPlaza account using the same email address registered with MANGA MIRAI by September 30.
Not every title will transfer. Manga obtained for free, including paid titles offered for $0 through promotions, and some purchased titles are excluded. A list of paid titles ineligible for migration is expected to be published around mid-October. DOCOMO says affected customers will receive separate information regarding refunds.
Users under 18 as of September 30 are also unable to migrate their libraries because they cannot create an account under MangaPlaza’s terms. Customers who do not want their account information or purchases transferred can opt out through MANGA MIRAI by September 30. Those customers will also receive information about refunds.
